Abhi-Aish worried for Mani Ratnam

Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who returned to India to shoot for Mani Ratnam's 'Ravana', are very concerned about the filmmaker's health. Mani Ratnam was hospitalized in Chennai on April 14 after complaining of breathing difficulty and dizziness.

Mani Ratnam has been concerned with the delay in shooting due to his health. But the star couple wants to make sure that Mani does not exert himself too much and rush into the shoot.

Abhishek Bachchan is making sure that his good friend Shaad has most of the on-set production work ready so that Mani has less to worry about. Shaad was earlier an assistant director to Mani Ratnam before making his own films like 'Saathiya', 'Bunty Aur Babli' and 'Jhoom Barabar Jhoom' but he is now back to working as Mani Ratnam's assistant for 'Ravana'.

Mani Ratnam is currently shooting with other stars of the film including south Indian star Vikram and Govind and Nikhil Dwivedi.

Abhishek Bachchan's Joy-ride film - 'Bunty Aur Babli'

Ask Abhishek Bachchan or even the whole cast and crew of the film if it was exaggerated...Bunty Aur Babli was even better than a joy ride. The film stars Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukherjee and Amitabh Bachchan were in the leading roles and were getting paid for having fun. They had a chance to freak out, full-blast.

Bunty Aur Babli was a fun film through and through and so glad audiences were to watch it. Bunty Aur Babli was the story of two dreamers who donned many guises on their journey to riches and fame. They become spiritual gurus, bureaucrat and secretary, gangster and moll, business partners, hen pecked husband and pregnant wife, lawyer and sexually harassed client, vagabonds and lovers etc.

Abhishek Bachchan played Rakesh, a middle class chora who dreams big but lives in a small town named Fursatganj. Rakesh's mind is a fertile ground for all kinds of schemes, ideas and plans to become rich. However, he knows he can achieve nothing living in his small and sleepy town. So he sets out to write his own destiny and realize his dreams of riches.

Rani Mukherjee played Vimmi, the self-proclaimed queen of the little-known Pankinagar. She unlike the other girls of her town, is uninhibited, wrestles in her father's akhaada and teases boys, rather than the other way round Vimmi, too, is a dreamer. In her mind she is a beauty queen, a clever woman who can outfox anyone and so on… Vimmi sets out on a journey to fulfill her dreams.

As fate would have it, Rakesh and Vimmi, the two dreamers of our story, meet accidentally and are rechristened Bunty and Babli. Realizing the similarities of their dreams, the two chum up and set out on a journey that will make them rich and famous but at the expense of the people they will fool.

But on Bunty and Babli's trail is an eccentric cop Dashrath Singh (Amitabh Bachchan) , the DCP of crime branch. He hates the people who mess up with system. Dashrath Singh has only three passions – smoking bidis, munching chana and hunting for Bunty and Babli.

Usually Bollywood films have the protagonists based in the big cities. This film was however an exception. The film was set in the towns of Uttar Pradesh and shot in the heartland of Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal. This is almost home ground for the Bachchans and of director Shaad too who belongs to the city of Nawabs - Lucknow.

'Bunty Aur Babli' was a film rooted to reality and yet a fantasy. Bunty Aur Babli was escapist cinema at its best. The average man and woman identifed with the lead protagonists. Abhishek seems to have warmed up to his favourite subject. We're stifled by the environment that we're born and brought up in. Our efforts to break away from the small-town environment will be understood by every member of the audience.

"We all have dared to dream. But few dare to implement those dreams. Bunty and Babli dare to do the outrageous and sometimes unlawful. It's a wish-fulfilment flick.

Directed by Shaad Ali, the movie was a Yashraj production and had music composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. Gulzar had written the lyrics for the film's songs. The item song Kajra re picturised on AshwairyaRai became an anthem in all parties and was a superhit.
